What to see when in Bled?

Lake Bled
The lake is 2120 m long, from 180 - 500 m wide and the deepest point would come to 30 meters. To walk around it is approximately 7 km which can take you one hour or the whole day- plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants on route. The lake is tectonic in origin, but was created 14000 years ago by a glacier that slid from the Alps into the valley. On the way it created this beautiful lake. There is 19 different species of fish in this lake, making it attractive for fisherman. You will find that swimming as well as rowing is possible almost everywhere. Over the winter the lake freezes and one can go on skates to the island.

Lake Bled Castle
The Lake Bled castle is built on a high rock approximately 100 m above the lake and is nowadays one of must see’s of Bled.
Donated in 1004, by the German Emperor Henrik II to the Bishop Albuin of Brixen, it proudly presents the rich history of the castle and surrounding areas through the centuries.
You will find the castle to be open from 9:00 – 18:00 (depending on the season) and amongst its walls it hides:
• A museum showing the history of the area and a collection of old furniture.
• An old-fashioned print house
• Castle Wine celar

Lake Bled Island
Impressing millions with its simplicity Lake Bled island remains Slovenia’s only natural island and one of the most beautiful places of Europe. With 99 stairs leading to the top of the island, St Mary’s Church, Wishing bell it is one of the most romantic places to get married. Nowadays you will find an excellent restaurant on the island, souvenir shop, ice cream shop, and as the local customs say– the groom has to carry the bride up the 99 stairs in order to have happy marriage.

Vintgar Gorge
Radovna, a small mountain river, forms the wonderful Vintgar gorge, 3 km long and in places only a few metres wide. The beautiful wooden path is mostly fixed directly on the rocks of the canyon. Vintgar gorge carves its way through the vertical rocks and is graced by the Radovna with its waterfalls, pools and rapids. The path leads you over numerous bridges, and ends with 16 m high Sum waterfall.
